Issue Summary

Reserve Component Post Mobilization Counseling

Issue Number 465
Status Completed
Issue Title Reserve Component Post Mobilization Counseling
Scope With the rise in the number of RC Soldiers mobilized, there is an increasing need for Soldiers and Family members to be afforded counseling services. Upon release from active duty (REFRAD), there are no provisions in place to assist RC Soldiers and Family members who need counseling, such as marital, Family, and financial. RC Soldiers and Family members must rely on expensive civilian agencies for these services. Access to counseling services would ensure the well being of RC Soldiers’ and Family members.
Issue Recommendation Allow RC Soldiers and Family Members up to one year post-mobilization to identify the need for counseling relating to service connected problems; provide counseling services at low/no cost.

Accomplishments Issue recommendations to allow Soldiers up to one year post mobilization to identify the need for counseling and for counseling to be provided at low or no cost were achieved. Counseling is available during all phases of the Yellow Ribbon reintegration program, six months of TAMP, and as part of the five year health care package for re-deployed Soldiers. All Soldiers regardless of status are authorized to utilize Military One Source for cost-free counseling (12 sessions per issue).
