Legal Assistance

ABA Military Pro Bono Project - A web-based venture that improves access to pro bono civil legal assistance for Active-Duty Military Personnel, including Active-Duty Members of the National Guard and Reserves. DA civilians are not eligible for this service. Referrals of income-eligible Service Member clients through the Project originate in Military Legal Assistance Offices after a thorough screening for legal merit by Military Handling Attorneys and additional screening by supervising Military Attorneys. The Project legal staff then offers eligible cases to private-sector attorneys and firms that have registered with the Project website and are qualified pro bono providers in the geographic area and subject area of interest for that case.

Legal Assistance for Military Personnel (LAMP) - LAMP fosters the continued growth of the Military legal assistance programs, promotes the delivery of legal services to Military Personnel and their Family Members and to persons accompanying the Armed Forces outside the United States, on their personal legal affairs; and maintain close liaison with the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security (with respect to the U.S. Coast Guard), the Military Services, bar associations, and appropriate committees of the Association to enhance the scope, quality, and delivery of free or affordable legal services to eligible legal assistance clients. A state-by-state listing of the efforts of bar associations to assist deployed and mobilized personnel is accessible from the LAMP website.

Operation Enduring LAMP Program - A consortium of state and local bar associations that have made a commitment to recruit volunteer attorneys, and in many cases offer training and facilities to volunteers, in order to assist Military legal assistance providers with civil law matters affecting Service Members. Operation Enduring LAMP efforts across the country offer varying kinds and levels of service.

Young Lawyers Division - ABA YLD is the home for young lawyers. With over 150,000 members and 300 affiliated groups, the ABA YLD is the largest young lawyer organization in the world. The Division is committed to assuring it is best able to represent the newest members of the profession, ensuring that it reflects the society it serves, and providing young lawyers and young lawyer organizations with the tools and opportunities for professional and personal success.
