Wisconsin National Guard Public Affairs Office
Gov. Scott Walker and First Lady Tonette Walker are inviting family members of Wisconsin's service members - past and present, here and abroad - to send a holiday ornament dedicated to their loved one to this year's "Tribute to our Troops" holiday tree at the Executive Residence. The ornaments will be displayed on one of the large evergreen trees in the mansion during December's holiday tours.
"We have men and women who will not spend the holidays at home with their families because of their service to our nation," Gov. Walker said. "It is a small, but important, gesture to remember those brave service members at this time of year."
The governor and first lady invite as many families as possible of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guard members to take part in the event. Ornaments can be plain, fancy or personalized.
"This is a difficult time of year for military families with a loved one serving overseas," Mrs. Walker said. "In an important way, the 'Tribute to our Troops' tree helps all of us remember not just those who are serving our nation, but their families as well."
Family members and friends who want to participate can send an ornament, no later than Nov. 9, to:
Wisconsin National Guard Service Member Support Division
ATTN: Master Sgt. Deborah Severson
200 Wright Street
Madison, Wis., 53704
The "Tribute to our Troops" tree will be decorated Nov. 14. Public tours will be held from noon-2 p.m. on Dec. 5, 6, 12, 13 and 15, and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 8.
