ACS Courses Earn Promotion Points

ACS Courses Earn Promotion Points

Source: HQDA Staff

Soldiers can now earn promotion points by completing selected Army Community Service courses.

The Total Army Personnel Command approved the program July 29. A total of four promotion points can be awarded for accumulating 40 hours of course instruction in the New Parent Support Program, financial readiness training classes, Operation R.E.A.D.Y. training classes and Army Family Team Building-Level 1.

The ACS director must sign Department of the Army Form 87 certifying course completion for the promotion points to be valid.

Soldiers will not receive promotion points for mandatory classes such as financial readiness training for “first termers” or Parent Support Program classes taken as a result of a recommended Family Advocacy Case Review Committee treatment plan.

“Promotion Points are an added bonus, not only do soldiers get the benefit of receiving excellent classroom training, they are also enhancing their careers,” said Brenda McDaniel, the ACS manager of this program at the U.S. Army Community and Family Support Center in Alexandria, Va.

The New Parent Support Program Parent Education and Support component educates new parents about child health and development and appropriate child rearing practices. Through New Parent Support, parents can enhance their communication and listening skills and stress management techniques.

The Financial Readiness Training classes promote financial literacy and wellness. The classes focus on how to get control of a budget, credit management, and decreasing debt for stress–free living.

Operation R.E.A.D.Y. gives soldiers and family members needed information about deployment and separation. The training provides an overview of all phases of deployment, sustainment, post–deployment, homecoming and reunion.

Army Family Team Building–Level 1 training is designed for family members new to the military. It offers basic “survival skills” to assist in their successful transition to the military environment and to become better prepared for the many challenges they might experience.

Information on each course will be posted on the ACS website at
