Question:
Can I retain my dental insurance coverage when I retire?

Answer:
Military retirees can enroll in the Enhanced TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP). Enrollment can be done online at Delta Dental of California’s website (http://www.ddpdelta.org); by phone (1 (888) 838-8737) or by sending an enrollment form by mail. Note that you may be required to submit additional information when enrolling to verify your eligibility. Contact your regional TRICARE Contractor office or visit the TRDP website for specifics on eligibility.

Question:
How do I file any complaints I have regarding my (military) dental care?

Answer:
If you have questions or concerns about the dental care provided by your military dentist or the TRICARE Dental Plan provider, speak first to a Patient Affairs representative at the specific service location. Contact a TRICARE Customer Service representative for further assistance. In CONUS, you can call toll-free at 1-800-866-8499. For OCONUS representatives, visit the United Concordia website at http://www.ucci.com or check with your local health or dental provider for a contact number.

Question:

Answer:
Your regional TRICARE Service Representative can provide you with the specific details on services and out-of-pocket expenses covered by the TRICARE Dental Plan. You can also visit the United Concordia Companies, Inc. website (who administers the program) at http://www.ucci.com for more information.

Question:
Is there a dental plan for military retirees?

Answer:
The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) is a voluntary dental benefits program that first began in February 1998 offering limited basic and preventive dental coverage to Uniformed Services retirees and their family members. The scope of coverage has since been enhanced. Current features of the Delta Dental of California program (Delta Dental of CA is the contractor who manages the TRDP) include a shortened enrollment commitment, a waiting period of only 12 months for the full scope of covered services, and an increase in the annual maximum and lifetime orthodontic maximum amounts to $1,200. The TRDP is a fee-for-service program funded entirely by enrollee-paid premiums. Enrollees in the TRDP may receive dental services from any licensed dentist they choose, but are advised that there are advantages to receiving treatment from a participating network dentist.

Question:
What are the eligibility requirements for receiving outpatient dental treatment through Veterans' Administration (VA)?

Answer:
Outpatient dental treatment through the Veterans' Administration (VA) relates to statutory eligibility granted to veteran beneficiaries, such as former Prisoners of War (POWs), those with service connected dental conditions related to trauma, etc. There are six classifications of eligible dental outpatients, most of which authorize treatment for service connected compensable dental disabilities or conditions, treatment determined by VA to be currently aggravating a service connected medical condition, treatment for veterans whose service connected disabilities have been rated at 100 percent or who are receiving the 100 percent rate by reason of individual unemployability, and treatment for veterans if the dental condition is clinically determined to be complicating a non-service connected medical condition currently under VA treatment. Other restrictions apply. Consult your VA Medical Facility representative for additional information on dental care.

Question:
What dental services are covered under the TRICARE Dental Plan (TDP)?

Answer:
The TRICARE Dental Plan (TDP) covers certain diagnostic and preventive procedures to include semi-annual check-ups and cleanings. The lifetime maximum benefit for orthodontic care is $1,500 and cost shares apply to other services. Visit the United Concordia Companies, Inc. (UCCI) website for other details on TDP benefits, requirements, and restrictions.
