Question:
What is the DoD Transportal?

Answer:
The DoD Transportal website (www.dodtransportal.org) is designed specifically to assist Service members leaving active duty by providing valuable information and resources to aid in the transition from military to civilian life.

Question:
What is the Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA)?

Answer:
The Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) permitted early retirement to selected military service members with more than 15 but less than 20 years of service who agreed to be registered for employment in public or community service organizations. The early retirement entitled the individual to receive all the normal retirement benefits of a person retiring with 20 years or more, except for a reduced retirement pay.

Question:
What is the Transition Bulletin Board (TBB) and how can it help me?

Answer:
DoD's Transition Bulletin Board is a resource for separating/retiring military and federal civilian personnel and their spouses who are seeking employment. It lists thousands of jobs, as well as registered Public and Community Service (PACS) organizations, educational and training opportunities, information on franchises, and a list of business opportunities. You can also find job fairs sponsored by local installations and their surrounding communities on the TBB.

Question:
Where can I apply for government civilian jobs?

Answer:
There are several ways to submit an application for government civilian jobs. If you are close to a military installation, visit the Civilian Personal Advisory Center (CPAC) for information on jobs and how to apply for them. You can also find job vacancies online by visiting installation websites and selecting "Employment" links or visit the Army's Civilian Personnel On Line website for more information (www.cpol.army.mil).

Question:
Where can I find information detailing the process of separating from the Army?

Answer:
The Army Retirement Services Office in your military community can provide specific information on retirement benefits and entitlements, as well as the transition services available to you. Transition services may include counseling and employment referral services to ease your transition from military to civilian. Visit the Transition Assistance Online website for additional resources at http://www.taonline.com. The Army Career and Alumni Program also provides counseling and employment referral services.
