What do “communication barriers” mean?
Communication barriers refer to the obstructions that interfere with an information exchange. Communication is filtered through personalities, attitudes, values, belief systems, assumptions made about each other, experiences, etc. and can cause mixed signals to exist when two or more individuals communicate. In addition to individual characteristics that can cause a barrier to effective communication, the medium through which the information is exchanged can also cause interference. Recognize which communication and techniques to use for a given situation (e.g., the telephone, face to face, email; personal communication skills and techniques such as directing versus coaching, telling versus asking, etc.).
Keywords: interpersonal relationships, Communications
