How can I maintain the interest of the members of our volunteer organization or Family Readiness Group?
Maintaining your members’ interest depends first on the purpose of your organization. Make sure that the events and activities you have supports the mission of your organization, which is why your members joined in the first place. Their participation needs to add value to their lives and suit their individual needs. In terms of meetings and activities, try to plan events that support a broad spectrum of interests and schedules. Alternate meeting dates and times if some of your members work during the day. Plan family events that allow members to bring their children. If you are truly unsure of what your members’ interests are, take a survey and ask them for ideas. Enlist members’ help in planning activities. When others are involved, they too have a vested interest in the event’s success.
