What is Service Member's Group Life Insurance (SGLI)?  
Servicemen's Group Life Insurance (SGLI) is a low cost group life insurance available to service members on active duty, ready reservists, members of the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Public Health Service, cadets and midshipmen of the four service academies, and members of the Reserve Officer Training Corps a through military pay deduction. It is currently limited to $250,000 (since 1 April 2001). Note that SGLI does not contain a war clause unlike some life insurance policies that have exclusions for military-related deaths.
