As we all know Family Readiness Groups (FRGs) are run by outstanding Family member volunteers from within the unit the FRG supports. These volunteers put in an incredible amount of time and energy into supporting the unit and its extended Family. As the tempo of deployments increased in recent years, the Army sought new ways to support our FRG volunteers and to ease their workload so they could focus on their outreach efforts to the unit Soldiers and Family members. The Family Readiness Support Assistant (FRSA) position was created to take on the administrative tasks that fall to the Commander and FRG leader when running an FRG. FRSAs work under the supervision of the Commander or Rear Detachment Commander (RDC), who coordinates the FRSAs assignments with the FRG Leader. The mission of FRSAs is to assist in maintaining continuity and stability of FRGs as the unit undergoes changes in volunteers and leadership.

What has your experience been working with FRSAs? How has the additional assistance aided in maintaining a strong FRG for your Soldiers and Families? We look forward to hearing from you.
