Employment Readiness



The Employment Readiness Program (ERP) provides services to military Spouses, active duty Military, active Reserve and National Guard, Wounded Warriors, Retirees, DoD Civilians, and all Family Members. Services include:

  • Up-to-date resource information on available local, national and international employment opportunities, job market trends, and education and volunteer resources.
  • Classes and seminars on self-assessment and career exploration, resume writing, interviewing techniques, dressing for success, networking, and entrepreneurship.
  • Resume critiques
  • Career counseling and individual career assessments.
  • Job fairs and other hiring events.
  • Teen/youth employment Information
  • Computers with internet access, resume writing software, and typing tutorials

(5) Translator for 50 plus languages

Get on-demand career and job search help by accessing online courses found in the Virtual Career Classroom. Learn how to successfully manage your job search by accessing these easy-to-use online e-courses. Courses include Resume Writing & Cover Letters, Job Search Success, Interviewing and Networking, and Job Offers and Negotiations. Get in-depth industry reports, detailed job descriptions and career planning resources with these digital career publications. Find over 50 digital career publications and directories to help you achieve career and life success. Digital publications include specific industry career guides and the digital edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Search and view over 5,000 detailed school profiles for top colleges, universities, graduate programs and career schools across America. Each school profile provides valuable information on admissions, college majors, tuition costs, financial aid, enrollment and much more.


Secretary of Defense Funded Programs for Spouses

The ERP Manager can provide information to the following Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) programs offered to military Spouses:

Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO): A program offered to all military spouses through Military OneSource, which offers employment assistance with exploring portable career options; education, training, financial aid and state occupational license/credential requirements; career readiness to include interview skills, resume building, etc.; and links to employment sources such as the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) and

Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA): A program offered to eligible military spouses as part of the OSD, Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program.

  • Eligibility restricted to spouses of active duty E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2 serving on Title 10 orders.
  • Financial assistance limited to $4,000.
  • Financial assistance must be used three years from the start date of the first class.
  • Financial assistance may only be used for an Associate Degree, occupational license or credential.

The pace of change has further accelerated over the past 7–10 years as technology has revolutionized job search, candidate sourcing, and recruitment. Today, social media has also taken hold and we’ve experienced even more significant changes now that LinkedIn,Facebook, Twitter, and other social media channels have become key players in job search and employment.

As the evolutionary cycle has progressed, the way in which we communicate on a daily basis has also changed dramatically. Who would have ever thought that 140-character tweets would be a common method of communication? Yet they are. Those changes – impacting all of our communications – have had a profound impact on career communications as well, and that’s what we’ll explore in this edition of the Journal.
