Instant Messaging

Instant Messaging, or IM, is a form of personal messaging.

• It's similar to chat, in that the communication occurs in real-time.
• It's a more personal form of communication, though, because it is directed to one other user at a time.
• Most IM software contains a chat feature, so you can use it to chat with a closed group of friends.
