Lesson 2: Ways to Connect: Dial-up
You learned about bandwidth in Chapter 1.
- Recall that the more bandwidth you have, the more information you can transfer at one time.
- Another thing you'll want to remember is the more bandwidth you have, the more expensive
your Internet connection will be.
With these in mind, let's review some of the different connection options that may be available to you.
- From home, your primary options are dial-up through your telephone line, cable modem
connections using your television cable service, or DSL, which also uses your phone line.
- Your choices may be limited by what is available in your geographic area. Dial-up should
be available in most areas. Cable and DSL are not available in many rural areas.
- If you have satellite television, you may also be able to connect through that provider.
