Lesson 2:
The Internet: Who Owns It?

The Internet is made up of hundreds of thousands of connected networks around the globe. Whoever owns one of those networks is responsible for maintaining that stop along the path. Owners could be persons, businesses, government agencies, schools, or organizations.

  • No one person, company or organization owns or operates the Internet. No one is in charge. If a network stop breaks down, the requests are sent a different way.
