Internet Components: Brief Overview

You may think of the World Wide Web (WWW) as the Internet, but you have many other Internet tools available to you.

• The main reason you might think of the WWW as the Internet is that many of the protocols these other tools use have been incorporated into the WWW software, called a browser.

These other tools can include e-mail, FTP, listservs, newsgroups, chat rooms, instant messaging, and virtual communities like this SOS site.
