1999 VIP Award of Honor - Andrea Jensen

1999 VIP Award of Honor - Andrea Jensen

Andrea Jensen - Army Recruiting, Buckley ANG Denver, CO

1999 Very Important Patriot Award of Honor

For the past year Andrea Jensen has been a Youth Sponsorship Volunteer for the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion in Denver, Colorado. As a Youth Sponsorship Volunteer, Andrea writes letters to the children of families who are being assigned to the Denver Battalion. Andrea provides a very special service to these children by helping to ease the anxieties they may have about moving to a new place. The Denver Battalion area includes all of Colorado, parts or Wyoming and parts of Nebraska.

Andrea is one of three youth who are official volunteers in the sponsorship program in the entire U.S. Army Recruiting Command, which spans the nation as well as several other countries. Because of the great service Andrea provides for other children, the Youth Sponsorship Program has been awarded a grant by the Department of the Army, to enhance the program.

When Andrea receives information about a child who will be moving soon to an area, she begins her work. Depending on the location within the Denver Battalion area that the new family will be moving to, Andrea gathers important information to send to the child. With the help of her parents, Andrea gets information from local attractions, such as Elitches Amusement park, Rocky Mountain Zoo, just to name a very few. The packets that Andrea sends are often packed with information about the things kinds like to do and, places they like to visit. When an incoming child will be locating in an area unfamiliar to Andrea, she is very tenacious at gathering information.

The parents of the children who receive letters from Andrea are very impressed with the packets she sends. They are also very appreciative of the time she takes and the valuable service she provides in making their children more comfortable with their upcoming move. The Denver Recruiting Battalion is grateful for the contributions Andrea makes as a Youth Sponsorship Volunteer, and as a result she has received recognition and award of appreciation. As the Army tries to take care of families, Andrea certainly contributes to that endeavor.

The recipient of this award receives $200.
