2003 - Ms. Geraldine Gordon, Fort Leavenworth volunteer

Ms. Geraldine Gordon, Fort Leavenworth volunteer, has provided over 5,000 hours of service since 1984 in the areas of Relocation and Information, Referral and Follow Up where she shares her wealth of knowledge from years as a military spouse. As the Volunteer Office Coordinator, Mrs. Gordon ensured that information packets were prepared for over 5,000 inquiries annually. In the 1980's, she traveled over forty-five miles outside the Leavenworth area to provide packets and introduce ACS programs to isolated first-term service members and their families.

As a loan closet volunteer, Mrs. Gordon made certain that the loan closet inventory met the needs of the service member. To promote efficiency, she placed items in packages for various sized families and maintained an inventory with each package. Mrs. Gordon organized a satellite loan closet for the International Officers attending the Command and General Staff Officer Course.

Mrs. Gordon has played a significant role in the ACS volunteer program. She was instrumental in recruiting volunteers by highlighting the opportunities at ACS during Post Activities Information and Registration Days. She welcomed new volunteers to ACS, conducted orientation classes, and provided training for reception, intake, and the loan closet volunteers. Since 1986, she has served on the ACS Volunteer Board where she interacts on a monthly basis with volunteer coordinators from every ACS program, disseminating information to all ACS volunteers.

In addition to her ACS volunteering, Mrs. Gordon has also been active in her church community, spouses clubs, and the Thrift Shop. She has received many ACS recognitions, as well as the Fort Leavenworth Helping Hand Award.
