1997 - Diana C. Ream, Fort Polk, LA

Mrs. Diana C. Ream, Fort Polk Army Community Service (ACS) volunteer, has been awarded the Emma Marie Baird Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. She will be recognized at a ceremony during National Volunteer Week, 13-19 April 1997. This prestigious Department of the Army award has only been received by twenty-four ACS volunteers Army-wide.

Mrs. Ream was nominated by Forces Command for her service in many ACS programs at Fort Polk. Since 1991 she provided over 8,000 hours of volunteer service. As the ACS Volunteer Supervisor, Mrs. Ream developed a volunteer handbook and job descriptions. She assists the ACS Director in the coordination of the Community Advisory Council. Over the years Mrs. Ream contributed to many ACS programs: Consumer Affairs and Financial Assistance, Information Referral and Follow-up, Family Member Employment Assistance, Exceptional Family Member Program, Community Life Program, Outreach Services, Relocation Assistance, and Family Support Training. Mrs. Ream's contributions in each of these areas has been significant and includes briefing programs, providing training, designing promotional materials, planning ceremonies, recruiting volunteers, and providing administrative support. Her tenure has been marked by an unequaled level of care and compassion for soldiers and family members.
