Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act

The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA, 38 U.S.C. § 4301 – 4335) is a federal law intended to ensure that persons who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard or other “uniformed services:” (1) are not disadvantaged in their civilian careers because of their service; (2) are promptly reemployed in their civilian jobs upon their return from duty; and (3) are not discriminated against in employment based on past, present, or future military service. The federal government is to be a “model employer” under USERRA (38 U.S.C. § 4301).

South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce - Veterans

South Carolina (SC) Works representatives are available in centers throughout the state to help veterans transition into the workforce. Veterans receive priority service in SC Works centers.

Local Veteran Outreach Specialists and Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialists (DVOP) are trained to provide intensive, priority employment services to all veterans, including group and individual career coaching, job referrals, resume preparation help, career fairs and job search workshops, job training programs, and referrals to training services.

Find a Hiring Our Heroes Hiring Fair Near You!

Hiring Our Heroes, a program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, was launched in March 2011 as a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning servicemembers, and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, our goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of communities where veterans and military families return every day. Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 650 hiring fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. Through June 30th, 2013 – 21,600 veterans and military spouses had obtained jobs.
